Bobojon Ghafurov District is located in northern Tajikistan, in the Fergana Valley, as part of Sughd Region.
Location
The district borders the Republic of Uzbekistan: in the southeast it adjoins the city of Khujand, in the north — Uzbekistan, in the east — Spitamen District, and in the south — Istiklol District. The district surrounds the cities of Khujand, Istiklol, Buston and Guliston.
Area and administrative centre
The total area of the district is 2,700 km². The administrative centre is the town of Ghafurov in the south of the district (until 1992 — Sovetabad).
Climate
The district has a sharply continental, arid climate. Summers are hot and long, with temperatures reaching +40 °C; winters are relatively mild with short frosts. Average annual precipitation is 150–250 mm.

- Rivers: Syr Darya (north-western part of the district)
- Reservoirs: Kayrakkum Reservoir (Tajik Sea) — partly within the district
- Mountains: foothills of the Mogol-Tau and Kuramin ranges
- Fertile soils: suitable for cotton, grain, orchards and vineyards
Population
The population of the district as of 2020 is 380,500 people. Population density is approximately 140 people/km². Rural population accounts for 95%. The majority of inhabitants are Tajiks; Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, Russians and representatives of other peoples also live in the district.
Administrative division
The district consists of 12 jamoats: 1 town jamoat (Shahrak Bobojon Ghafurov) and 11 rural jamoats — Ghozien, Dadoboy Kholmatov, Yova, Zarzamin, Ismoil, Isfisor, Ovchi-Qal’acha, Unji, Haydar Usmonov, Khistevarz and Chashmasor.
